About Our Practice

David L. Isenhower, Attorney and Counsellor at Law, PLLC and Susan Williams Matthews, PLLC, of Conover, North Carolina, serve clients throughout the Catawba Valley region, including Catawba and surrounding counties. Susan Williams Matthews, PLLC is Of Counsel to David L. Isenhower, Attorney and Counsellor at Law, PLLC.

Both David and Susan have deep roots in this part of North Carolina. David grew up in Catawba County and has practiced law in Newton-Conover for over 40 years. Susan is a Hickory native and a third-generation Catawba County attorney. She returned to the area after graduating law school and working in a large, regional law firm based in Charlotte. Her motivation for returning to Catawba County was simple: she wants to practice law with the same level of commitment, compassion, and collegiality with which her late father and grandfather practiced.

In 2016, after having practiced in Hickory with one of the larger firms in Catawba County, Susan decided to take the next step toward her goal and establish her own firm. She chose Conover, North Carolina as the place to do it. And David, with his decades of experience running a law practice, agreed to help. As such, David and Susan formed the relationship between their two firms.

Already familiar with one another through community ties and church, David and Susan share a philosophy about how law should be practiced. They believe in cultivating relationships with their clients so that their clients know that they are not just a name on a case file, but are valued and understood. They understand that these ongoing client relationships help them better anticipate the needs of clients and prevent legal problems long before they have a chance to develop.

David and Susan also share in their commitment to excellence and to doing things thoroughly for the sake of a job well done. They are both dedicated to maintaining the highest level of ethics and professionalism in the practice of law.
